The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is now in support of requiring a Master's degree or equivalent as a prerequisite for the Professional Engineer's license. Are you looking for broader or more specific knowledge than you received while achieving your Bachelor's degree? Many of our students attend graduate school because they want to learn more about civil and environmental engineering topics they studied as an undergraduate. Do you want to teach? Many states now require a Master's degree or equivalent to teach in any capacity, and a Ph.D. degree or equivalent is the only way to acquire a teaching position inside a research-intensive institution of higher education. Are you simply looking for a larger paycheck? Americans with a graduate degree earn an average of 35% to 50% more than those having only a bachelor's degree. Our civil and environmental engineering graduate studies programs at The Ohio State University allow you to learn from faculty who are the best in Ohio, across the nation, and around the world. Our graduate programs lead to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in the areas of construction, materials, soils and foundations, structures, transportation, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, and remote sensing. A dual M.S. degree is offered in Urban Transportation Planning in conjunction with the Department of City and Regional Planning inside the Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture. We also offer an Advanced Professional Degree designation as a Civil Engineer administered through the OSU College of Engineering.
